情況	構成方法
單數名詞詞尾加「's」，複數名詞詞尾沒有s，也要加「's」 (有生物的)	the boy's bag 男孩的書包 men's room 男廁所。
無生物用 of	桌子的腳：the legs of the table 車門：the doors of the car 女孩的名字：the girl's name / the name of the girl
字尾是 s 的專有名詞：加 's ，但也有只加'	Charles'(s) letter.
字尾是 -s 的複數名詞	a girls' school (女子學校)
複合名詞與名詞片語：在最後的字加上's	ex. my father-in-law's fortune (我岳父的財產) ex. somebody else's hat (別人的帽子) ex. Tom and John's monther (共同母親) ex. Tom's and John's mothers (各別母親)
無生物名詞加 's時 (單位、價值、人格化、慣用語)	距離：a mile 's distance 長度：a boat's length 重量：five pounds' 時間：today's paper、an hour's walk 價值：two dollars' worth of sugar 人格化：the ocean's roar (海洋的怒號) 人格化：Heaven's will (天意) 慣用語：a Forturne's favorite (幸運兒)
表示主格、受格關係的所有格	the doctor's arrival (醫生的來臨) doctor 是 arrival 的主格 Caesar's murderers (謀殺凱撒的兇手們) Caesar 是murderer的受格
所有格後面的字可以省略	1. 前面出現的字重複時 ex. This book is my sister's.(姊姊的書) 2. 表示家、店、寺院、醫院 ex. I spent my summer holidays at my uncle's.(叔叔的家)
其中一位	不可寫成「a my sister's friend」 a friend of my sister's 姊姊有些朋友，而且是這些朋友中的一位朋友 a friend of my sister 姊姊的一位朋友

Emily and Colette are women's names.
